1. Getting started
---------------------------

1-1 About the software
Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E is not designed for commercial purposes.

1-2 Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E can be used only within a configuration 
    consisting of one STR-LSA1, one CDP-LSA1 and one MDS-LSA1.

2. System requirements

2-1 Hardware platform
IBM PC/AT (or compatible) personal computer

2-2 Operating system
Windows98 Second Edition/Windows2000/Windows Me

2-3 i.LINK connections
i.LINK connector or i.LINK card

2-4 Free hard disc space
20 MB or more

2-5 Video monitor
 * Recommended resolution VGA 640 x 480 dots or more
 * Recommended colour palette 16 bit (65,536) colours or more
Use of settings other than those recommended above may result 
in flickering or the incorrect display of colours on your monitor.

3. Installation
----------------------

3-1 Note
Be sure to install this software before you connect any i.LINK 
component to your computer.  
Make sure to quit all Windows applications before starting the 
installation procedure.  If the software is not correctly installed 
in accordance with the instructions in the "Operating Instructions", 
problems may occur, such as the failure of the software to recognize 
connected LISSA components.

3-2 Installing the software
1. Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
   The installer starts up automatically.  Follow the instructions that 
   appear on the screen to install the software.
   If the installer does not start up automatically, click [Start], 
   point to [Settings], click [Control Panel], and then double-click 
   [Add/Remove Programs] and click [Install].
2. After you have completed the installation procedure, a dialogue box 
   will appear requesting that you restart the computer.
   If you do not restart your computer at this time, do not connect any 
   LISSA component until you shut down the computer.

3-3 Uninstalling the software
1. Click [Start], point to [Settings], click [Control Panel], and 
   then double-click [Add/Remove Programs].
2. Click [Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E] in the programme list, 
   and then click [Add/Remove].
3. The uninstaller starts up and the Digital Link Manager for LISSA file 
   and other related items are deleted from the hard disc.

3-4 Re-installing the software
    Repeat the procedure in 3-2 to install the software again.

3-5 When the installation order is incorrect
Be sure to re-install the software, as the Opetaion Instruction
specifies.

3-6 If nothing appears in the Audio Rack View when you start up 
    the software for the first time
    When you start up Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E, the icons of the 
    connected components will not appear in the Audio Rack View if:
    * you connected the LISSA-series components to your computer 
      before you installed Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E.
    * you connected the LISSA-series components to your computer 
      after you installed Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E, 
      but you did not restart the computer.

    If the window appears when you are using Windows98 Second Edition/
       Windows Me,
    1. Disconnect all i.LINK devices from the computer.
    2. Do the procedure "3-3 Uninstalling the software" to uninstall the software.
    3. Do the procedure "3-2 Installing the software" to re-install the software.
    4. Restart the computer.
    
    If the window appears when you are using Windows2000
    1. Disconnect all i.LINK devices from the computer, and then reconnect only 
       the LISSA-series components to the computer. 
    2. Right-click [My Computer], select [Properties], click the [Hardware] tab, 
       and then click [Device Manager] to open the "Device Manager" window.
    3. Double-click [Microsoft DV Camera and VCR], click the [Driver] tab 
       in the "Properties" window, and then click [Update Driver] to update the driver.
    4. Select [Sony i.LINK  Audio Device (xxx-LSA1)] (xxx, indicated as MDS, CDP or STR, 
       is the model name of the LISSA-series component) in the window as the driver. 
    5. Restart the computer.  
    (Detailed operations are described in "Operation Instructions".)

4. i.LINK connections
---------------------------------

4-1 i.LINK connecting cable connections
It is essential that you connect the LISSA components to your computer correctly. 
Use of loop connections or other inappropriate methods to connect the devices may 
cause serious damage to your computer and the connected components.

4-2 Connecting LISSA components to your computer for the first time
Be sure to complete the installation of Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E 
before connecting any i.LINK component to your computer.

4-3 If you have connected LISSA components to your computer with i.LINK connecting cables, 
but the icons of the connected components do not appear in the Audio Rack View, 
disconnect all i.LINK connecting cables from the i.LINK connectors on the computer 
and LISSA components, and then reconnect them.

4-4 It is strongly recommended that you DO NOT connect/disconnect the i.LINK device(s)
when this software is executed.

4-5 It is recommended that you DO connect 1 set of LISSA series device,
(STR-LSA1, CDP-LSA1 and MDS-LSA1) when this software is executed.

5. General operations/notification for playing/recording
   the PC Audio files
------------------------------------------------------
5-1 Supported Media files/Playlist
This software support the following file formats,
   * MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3 (.mp3)
   * Windows Media Audio  (.wma)
   * Wave file            (.wav)
Note : * There are some files and cases, which is not available
         on this software.
       * Up to 255 audio files can be loaded on the list,if the playlist
         which contains more than 255 tracks is loaded , up to 255 audio files
         appears on the list.

5-2 Restricted/Recommended operations when playing/recording 
the audio files

* Plugging and Unplugging the i.LINK Device 
Be sure not to plug/unplug the device on i.LINK during
the audio file is playing/recording.  
If you do the sound may be stopped.

* The sound card setting during the recording
Be sure not to set "Sony i.LINK Audio Device"
at the "Preffered device" of the Sound Playback,
appears on "Sound and multimedia Properties" , when recording.
Because this settings is "Sony i.LINK Audio Device", all of the sound
on Windows,which is not the actual sound you want to record will be 
mixed.

* Execution of another application software during the recording
Be sure not to execute another software, when recording.
If you do, sometimes the sound may drift and you cannot record the
correct audio files.

* The setting of the "Level Sync" of the MDS-LSA1
Be sure to set the Level Sync setting on the MDS-LSA1 "OFF",
Because some file contain the part with silent part,and if you
do this settings "ON", the MDS-LSA1 will detect this part as
the border of the track,so the sound will be splitted into another
track,even it is actually one file.

6. General operations on MDS-LSA1
------------------------------------------------------

This section describes the MDS-LSA1 status at the time Digital Link Manager for LISSA 
2.0E is started up.

6-1 Restrictions on MDS-LSA1 operations
The operation buttons on the deck and remote may not work while Digital Link Manager 
for LISSA 2.0E is running.  If you attempt to operate MDS-LSA1 at this time, "REMOTE" 
will appear in the front panel display of the MDS-LSA1.

6-2 MDS-LSA1 status during software start up
The MDS-LSA1 icon in Audio Rack View may be greyed out (indicating detached status), 
depending on the operating status of MDS-LSA1 at the time Digital Link Manager for 
LISSA 2.0E is started up.  The MDS-LSA1 will not be operable during this time.  
While the MDS-LSA1 is stopped, select [Attach] in the right-click menu to enable it 
to be controlled from the computer.

6-3 Conditions that cause MDS-LSA1 to be detached
If Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E is started up while you are doing an editing operation, 
a menu selection, rehearsal play, or recording operation on MDS-LSA1, the MDS-LSA1 icon 
in Audio Rack View will be greyed out (indicating detached status).

6-4 Quitting the software during recording
If you quit Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E during recording, and then restart the software 
while the recording operation is still in progress, the MDS-LSA1 will change to detached status.

6-5 Recording operations
If you click a record button of MDS-LSA1 when there is no audio input to the MDS-LSA1, 
"No signal" appears on the screen and recording will not start.  
At this time, select the input source from Input Select in the MD setup window.

7. Text editing on MDS-LSA1
--------------------------------------------

7-1 Entering text
To enter text that you have typed in through Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E, 
press the Enter key or click the mouse pointer in an area outside of the text entry area.  
The text will be entered at that time.
If you quit the software or eject the MD before you enter the text data, 
the text data will not be recorded to the MD.

7-2 Cancelling a text entry
* You can press the Esc key to cancel a text entry, as long as you have not entered it.
* To cancel text that you have entered, select [Undo] in the right-click menu and click [OK]. 
The text that was entered is deleted.

7-3 Restrictions on text input during recording pause (Rec Pause)
Text cannot be entered during recording pause.

7-4 Maximum number of characters
Up to 200 characters can be entered for the disc name and each track name on an MD. 
When the maximum number of characters is reached, "Maximum number of input characters 
has exceeded 200!!" is displayed. When you see this message, decrease the length of 
the name until the message disappears.
Pre-existing disc and track names longer than 200 characters will be displayed.  
However, if you modify such names, the length must be shortened to 200 characters or less 
before the modified name can be entered.

7-5 Restrictions on the display of disc (or track) names
There is no automatic scrolling function for disc (or track) names that are too long 
to display. To see the entire name (for which text entry is possible), 
change the system to text-entry mode.  
You will then be able to verify the contents of the entire name.

7-6 Restrictions on the type of characters that can be entered
* You can only input alphanumeric characters and the following symbols:
 !"#$%&'()+-*/=:;,.<>?@_`
Symbols other than those shown above will not be correctly displayed.
* If you type in text that contains unsupported characters, 
the unsupported characters will be automatically deleted when the text is entered.

7-7 Text cannot be entered during TocReading.

7-8 Failed text entry
Depending on the MDS-LSA1 operating status, text entry may fail. 
At this time, "cannot execute" will appear on the screen.  
When you see this message, repeat the text entry.

7-9 Total maximum number of characters
Up to 1785Bytes of the characters can be entered as the track/disc name,
within 1 disc.

8. Editing operations on MDS-LSA1
-----------------------------------------------------

8-1 Editing operations cannot be performed while MDS-LSA1 is 
in Shuffle or Programme play mode.

8-2 When MDS-LSA1 cannot accommodate an edit command, "cannot execute"
will appear on the screen.  When you see this message, repeat the operation 
after waiting a few seconds.

8-3 Due to MD system restrictions, it may not be possible to combine tracks 
that have been edited before.

8-4 COMBINE Operations
* When only one track is selected for a track combination operation, 
the selected track will be combined with the track that follows it.
* When only the last track in the MD is selected for a track combination operation, 
the track will be combined with the first track in the MD.

8-5 Selecting multiple tracks
To select more than one track at a time, left-click the desired track numbers
while pressing down the Ctrl key.

9. CD to MD dubbing operations
------------------------------------------------

9-1 Using the RecIt function during Programme play on CDP-LSA1
If you perform a Reclt operation during Programme play on CDP-LSA1, 
the CDP-LSA1 play mode will change to Continue play mode.

9-2 Copying CD-TEXT name data
During CD-Synchro recording, CD-TEXT name data are copied to the MD.  
However, a name may not be copied if CD-Synchro recording is stopped manually, 
or if a track is short (30 seconds or shorter).

9-3 Play Mode of the CD after this operation
After this operation,the play mode of the CD is always "continue".

10. Notes on Windows
---------------------------------

10-1 The Windows power control functions
Before starting up Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E, be sure to turn off 
all the power control functions in the "Power Properties" window. 
If you do not, Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E may not function properly 
when the computer returns to normal operation mode.

10-2 The screen saver
Before starting up Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E, be sure to turn off 
the screen saver function in the "Display Properties" window. 
If you do not, Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E may not function properly 
when the computer returns to normal operation mode.

10-3 Prohibition on folder and file name modifications
Do not modify the name of the folders or files that are created by the installer
or by Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E.  If you do, Digital Link Manager for LISSA 2.0E 
will not be able to start up properly.

10-4 Prohibition of hibernation/suspend mode 
Do not execute hibernation/suspend when this software is executed .

11. Other
----------------

11-1 The number of each component that appears in the front panel display of STR-LSA1
may differ from the number indicated in the Audio Rack View of Digital Link 
Manager for LISSA 2.0E.

11-2 When a play mode other than [CONTINUE] is selected, play will not start 
even when you double-click a track in the MD or CD play list.
